Resilience: the ability to respond to or recover from a crisis
With a changing climate, and all the uncertainties that brings, we need one another more than ever. BRACE connects people in Llanfyllin and the surrounding area so we can respond to the crisis together. We’re here to
- help one another learn about the causes of the crisis and what it means for our community
- get to know and support one another
- build a more resilient community that can weather the crisis together
- and to take positive and practical action in our own lives and together as a community
Putting resilience into practice
BRACE has a variety of projects aimed at building stronger community links and increasing the practical resilience of the local community. With a community garden behind the Llanfyllin Public Institute, several other food growing spaces, and the Cae Bodfach orchard, BRACE members can get hands-on experience growing food for themselves and the community. The Repair Café brings local volunteers together to share their knowledge and experience to fix broken items and reduce the need for people to buy new things.
BRACE also offers training and knowledge-sharing, with courses on plant propagation, food preserving, and other practical skills that help to reduce our negative impact on the planet, save money and improve our resilience.
We’re also keen to support new projects, so get in touch if you have any ideas! You’ll find a group of receptive and enthusiastic people to help get it off the ground.
Not just climate
The Climate Emergency has much in common with many other problems that we face as a community. Poverty, physical and mental health, biodiversity, waste, emissions and various other issues share many of the same roots and will all be made worse by climate change. These problems can only be tackled by happier, healthier, stronger communities that work together in the interests of the land and everyone in it. So whatever the issues you’re up against, BRACE provides an open and friendly community of helping hands.
