Spring is here! Or is it? The flowers and the bees certainly think so, even if the chilly wind says otherwise. No matter! We are in a joyful springy mood this weekend, as several members of BRACE head off to The Big One in London.
It’s four years since my first rebellion, standing on a beautifully decorated Waterloo bridge, listening to talks and samba in a sunny, car-free central London. Everything and nothing has change since then. So back we go, to show the strength of our numbers and our convictions, to tell those in power what they already know, but their world-view cannot let them acknowledge. Yet.
Whatever happens on the streets or in the corridors and boardrooms of power, there is joy in the struggle. And whether you’re able to join in on the streets, or you’re contributing in whatever other way you can, every little action helps. So take heart, and celebrate everything you can do.
If you’re not able to make it this weekend, but would still like to be involved, you can follow along on the XR livestream.
Next Wednesday is the fourth Wednesday of the month, which means it’s time for our next general meting! We’ll be having a debrief from people who are in London this weekend, and a chat about how things went.
We’ll also be kicking off with the first of some new BRACE film nights. We’ll be watching Together We Grow, a wonderful new documentary about the Common Unity Project Aotearoa. Common Unity has a lot in common with BRACE, although they are perhaps a bit further ahead in terms of scale. It should be an inspiring watch, and give us some ideas for our next projects. Come along at 7pm on Wednesday to munch some popcorn and have a watch!
If you can’t make it for any reason, there’s no need to miss out. The film is free on YouTube, so you can watch it at your leisure. I’d also urge you to check out other films by the producers, Happen Films. If you ever need a pick-me-up or some new ideas, they’ve got a huge range of beautiful documentaries that will hit the spot.
See you on the streets, or at the Cross Keys on Wednesday!
